Catholic Schools Week 2017 in St. Conaire’s
Many activities marked Catholic Schools Week 2017 in St. Conaire’s. Pope Francis asked that we all work to learn together for our common home, Earth. On Monday the St. Vincent de Paul Chapter from St. Caimin’s Community School under the guidance of chaplain Sharon Bulfin visited our 6th classes to elaborate on their work for social justice here in Shannon as well as further afield. Mr. Pilkington and Mr. McNamara facilitated the second level students. (Click here to see photographs) On Tuesday, our 5th classes participated in the annual pilgrimage to St. Conaire’s Church, Carrygerry and Kilconry Cemetery. They were led by Ms. White, Mr. O’Connell and Fr. Tom. (Click here to see photographs).
Our 1st, 3rd and 4th classes were very busy on Wednesday, St. Bridget’s Day. The 1st classes with their teachers Ms. Kelleher and Ms. Bulfin undertook an environmental awareness walk from the school grounds all the way to Illaunnamanagh Cemetery which overlooks the River Shannon. They used their five senses to appreciate the wonderful world around them. (You can see photographs by clicking here). 3rd and 4th classes made St. Bridget’s Crosses with locally sourced raw materials. (Some photographs are available here).
Thursday, February 2nd, was Grandparents’ Day and three separate blessings were held in Ms. Morris’s, Ms. Malone’s and Ms. Moore’s classrooms. Our Junior Infants had spent the week preparing for their walk to the Adoration Chapel in Skycourt Shopping Centre under the guidance of Ms. O’Driscoll, Ms. McMahon and Ms. Halpin. (Junior Pilgrim Photographs are here) Many thanks also to our Special Needs Assistants, Liz, Rosie, Mary and Annette who helped us out. (Click here to see photographs)
The week closed with a Confirmation Preparation Mass in Ss. John & Paul Church for the pupils of our 6th classes. It was a wonderful week of heightening awareness and giving thanks for the wonderful world we are entrusted with.
