Honouring St. Conaire
The annual St. Conaire’s pilgrimage trek to St. Conaire’s Church, Carrygerry and Kilconry Graveyard took place today, January 28, 2015. Mr. O’Brien’s and Ms. Cleary’s classes took a bus to St. Conaire’s Church where they learned about the history of this famous old church and its importance to the area. The church’s walls date back to pre-Famine times. They also learned about St. Conaire and her links to the area which stretch back over fifteen centuries. We held a special prayer service in the church as well; this is part of Catholic Schools Week 2015. The pupils then moved on to Kilconry Graveyard and learned more about how people have been remembered in the Rineanna area. The pupils and staff then had refreshments before returning to our school which was named in honour of St. Conaire. It was a lovely way to honour our St. Conaire on her feast day.
