“Conaire’s Connections” Unveiled
Our Conaire’s Connections felting project was launched today in the presence of pupils, teachers and artist Susanna Anker. We applied for the Artist in School Scheme run by Clare County Council’s Arts Office and our proposal was successful. Many thanks to Siobhan Mulcahy and her team for giving us this great opportunity. Mrs Eisenberg and Ms. McMahon led the project alongside Susanna. Our Student Council was also involved and they assisted with the research. The project took a number of months and the pupils and teachers really enjoyed working with Susanna. They researched the national emblems of pupils in the school and selected twenty for further work. The chosen emblems were realized in felt and presented in large quilted format. The finished project was mounted and protected behind a Perspex sheet. The pupils learned about the process, history and art of felting in a very active, hands-on manner. Today’s launch was all about acknowledging the hard work of all involved. Conaire’s Connections is a visual reminder of the diverse, colourful and exciting community that is St. Conaire’s National School. Click here to see a gallery of photographs from the unveiling.
