Marine Spatial Planning Resource launched at St. Conaire’s NS
Launch of Marine Institute Explorers Education Programme Marine Spatial Planning Resources
St. Conaire’s NS was delighted to take part in the launch of a very special educational resource on Friday, September 26th 2025. The Marine Institute’s Explorers Programme has developed a Marine Spatial Planning Resource for schools. Minister Timmy Dooley, TD, visited St. Conaire’s NS to see the resource in action and to launch it officially.
Ms. Mairead Greene’s 5th class had used the spatial planning resource to study Ireland’s marine geography. This project built on previous work done by Ms. Greene in bringing students to Lahinch for a Sea Safari. The students created posters, developed games and prepared a presentation for the guests. Dr. Rick Officer, CEO of the Marine Institute, welcomed Minister Dooley and the students. Ms. Greene explained to the guests the work done by the class and the immense value of the research tool.
It was clear that the children were very engaged and had excellent learning experiences by using the marine spatial planning tool. They even created their own board game. Congratulations to Ms. Greene and her students on a job very well done. Congratulations also to Noirin Burke and Cushla Drumgool-Regan from the Marine Institute who had put so much work into the project.
