Safe Cycling Course Ends

Our Safe Cycling Course ended today, December 12th, 2014.  We began on November 7th.  Twenty lucky students from 2nd to 6th got to improve their safe cycling skills and increase their road safety awareness over a period of 6 weeks.  Every Friday from then, John Clancy, our instructor, raised the children’s awareness of the importance of safety while cycling.  The course covered areas such as checking tyres and brakes, adjusting seat height, starting and stopping safely, cycling at an appropriate speed, avoiding obstacles, awareness of others, reading road signs and avoiding hazards on the road.  Some children learned how to cycle over the duration of the course but all improved their safety skills.

John provided the school with bicycles, helmets and high-visibility vests.  The children also brought their own bicycles to school as part of the course.  Thanks to all the school staff who took part in this worthwhile project.  At the end of the course, all the children were presented with certificates marking their achievement.  Click here to see our gallery of photographs from the course.
