Easter 1916 Drama “Me, Mollser” performed at St. Conaire’s

Me, Mollser is a play about the Easter Rising of 1916.  The Abbey Theatre/Babaró production visited St. Conaire’s today.  Me, Mollser by Ali White, is related to Seán O’Casey’s masterpiece The Plough and the Stars.  The main character is Mollser, a 15 year old girl who has TB.  The play is fully interactive and is aimed at 5th and 6th class pupils.  The 1913 Lockout, the terrible slum conditions in Dublin and the Easter Rising of 1916 provide the background to the action.  Mollser brings the pupils on a verbal tour of the history of that time in an energetic, humorous and emotional manner.  At the end of the performance, the actor who plays Mollser and her facilitator/narrator enagage with the pupils in a workshop.  Background materials are provided for teachers and the play links in to 5th/6th class English, SPHE and History curricula.  Click here to see the photographs taken during the performance.  Many thanks to the Abbey/Baboró and the performers for providing us with this great start to our 1916/2016 celebrations.
