Attendance Policy

At St. Conaire’s we are committed to working with parents to ensure high attendance rates for all pupils.  It is expected that all pupils will attend school regularly. Thank you for your co-operation with this policy.

Parents are required to note the following:

Punctuality

Punctuality is essential as arriving late upsets the child who is late and interrupts class.

With effect from September 1, late arrivals will be recorded.  Persistent late arrivals must be explained to the school.

After 9:10 a.m. the gates will be locked and late arrivals must report to the school office at the main front door.

Attendance

A full record of each child’s attendance is kept by the class teacher.

All absences must be explained (a) by telephone call to the school on the day or (b) a note to the teacher.  Any unexplained absences will be recorded on a child’s attendance record.

Any child who misses 20 days or more will automatically be reported to the National Educational Welfare Board for consideration of their case.

Short absences during the school day

While we ask that all absences be kept to a minimum there are occasions when a child may need to leave school during class time.

A note must be sent to the relevant teacher informing him/her of the reason for the absence.

Pupils must be signed out from the Secretary’s office.
